Goddess Chandraghanta is the Goddess Parvati married form. After Goddess Mahagauri got married to Lord Shiv, she started adorning her forehead with half Chandra and this was the reason Goddess Parvati was known as Goddess Chandraghanta.
Goddess Chandraghanta is worshipped on the Navarathris third day. Goddess Chandraghanta is mounted on the tigress wearing the semi-circular moon (Chandra) on her forehead. The half-moon looks like the bell (Ghanta) and so she is known as Chandra-Ghanta. She is shown with ten hands.
Goddess Chandraghanta in her left four hands carries Trishul, Gada, Sword and Kamandal s and keeps the fifth left hand in Varada Mudra. In the right four hands, she carries lotus flower, Arrow, Dhanush and Japa Mala and keeps the fifth right hand in Abhaya Mudra.
