Goddess Durga on the Navaratri fifth day is worshipped in Skandmata form. It means mother of Skand or Kartikeya.
Goddess Durga is Lord Kartikeya’s mother and so she is referred to as Skandmata. She is the solar system deity. Worshipping her with devotion and faith on this fifth day of Navaratri is sure to be blessed with prosperity and immense happiness.
Skandmata on this day has a golden complexion and she poses sitting on a lion with four hands. She carries in two hands lotus and has the Lord Skanda seated on her lap. This Devi Durga form reveals the Goddess in her mother form and signifies that the entire universe is her child.
